The mission of The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board (hereafter referred to as the "board") is to inspire a passion for the parks; communicate the benefits of the parks and recreational activities; provide exceptional park experiences; develop an enduring park system legacy; provide superb park destinations that connect and help build community; and engage and listen to all members of the community for the benefit of generation after generation. 

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board: Roles and Responsibilities

The board consists of seven members appointed by the Commissioners for a term of three years.

  • The board acts as an advisory body that issues recommendations to the Commissioners of St. Michaels
  • The board meets on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 12:30 p.m. Unless notice is given of an alternative venue, all meetings will be held at the Boy Scout Cabin, located at 407 St. Mary's Square. Interested members of the community are welcome to attend. 
  • The members of the board observe park conditions, uses, activities, and programs; 
  • The board works closely with the town staff and reports any emergent or non-emergent maintenance needs and recommends policies and best practices. 
  • In addition, the board reviews policies and best practices from volunteers and vendors for park use and makes their recommendations to the Town Commissioners.
  • The board interacts with community agencies, citizen groups, donors, and other parties in making recommendations to the Commissioners on the planning, design, development, and enhancement of facilities and programs
  • The board coordinates approved activities by citizen volunteer
  • The board proactively responds to changing needs and trends and makes decisions to update appearance and park comfort levels for park participants
